Wonder Woman

As a child, I lived a very sheltered life.   I sat at home closeted in my bedroom on most Saturdays.  What did I do while my parents held me captive, you ask?  Well, I watched cartoons, of course.  My absolute favorite for several years had to be Super Friends.   I so desperately wanted to be a member of the Justice League of America.  I mean, who doesn’t want to possess super power?

If I had to pick a super hero to emulate, it would definitely be Wonder Woman.   First of all, she had the ability to make others tell the truth with that cool lasso.  That would come in mighty handy.  Plus, she looked amazing in a bathing suit.

This Easter weekend, I was reminded about my foolish childhood Super Hero fantasies after we got home from the Easter service.  I had a resurrection revelation of sorts, and I wanted to share it with you through this VLOG.

“And if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead

is living in you,

He who raised Christ from the dead

will also give life to your mortal bodies

because of His Spirit who lives in you.”

Romans 8:11, NIV

Q4U:  How do you tap into your super power, Wonder Woman?

My one-word focus for the year is “fruitilicious.”  Find out what that means here.

Lessons Learned in 3D — Easter Edition

Easter is my favorite time of year.   I live in South Florida, and our church has a sunrise service each year under blue skies.  I can’t wait!

Here are some of my favorite “Easter reads” and “Easter tunes” that God has filled my heart with this week:

1.  Jennifer shares about “When You Need a Rescue.”  I love a good God story!

2.  Sarah pens her thoughts on “Love Thursday.”  Does your church do a Maundy Thursday service?

3.  I love this quote graphic that Kristen shared of a John Piper quote about Easter.  Very “pinnable” if you are into that Pinterest thing…

4.  Alicia, one of my SDG friends, writes an amazing post about Easter from a mommy perspective.  I love her writing!  Check out “I Live in Laundry.”

5.  As an English teacher, this post grabbed me right away.   Jean Wise at “Healthy Spirituality” creates a portrait in her post “The Verbs of Maundy Thursday and Good Friday.”

6.  Andrea at “Under Grace and Over Coffee” put together a three-part series on “To Know Him” that captures the heart of God.

7.  My favorite new song that I discovered for Easter this year is “Jesus, You Have Won Me” by Bethel Worship.

Grace, you've shown me grace
You've lifted my shame
Drawn me with loving kindness
Washed whiter than snow
You have redeemed and made me whole

Jesus, You have won me You have broken every chain
With love and mercy
You have triumphed over death And you are worthy
Of glory and praise

8.  Have you heard “Cornerstone” by Hillsong Live?  Great song!  It’s a classic hymn made new.

9.  Our church worship team introduced us to “Christ is Risen” by Matt Maher this year.  The lyrics are powerful.

Beneath the weight of all our sin
You bow to none but heavens will
No scheme of hell, no scoffer’s crown
No burden great can hold you down
In strength you reign
Forever let your church proclaim

Christ is risen from the dead
Trampling over death by death
Come awake, come awake!
Come and rise up from the grave

10.  This song by Gateway Worship says it all.  So glad our church is singing “God Be Praised” this week.  Love it!

You saved my life from death
When I was all defeated
You spoke Your promises
And brought life to my weakness
Came as a conquering King
And You warred for my freedom
My soul can’t help but sing
Hallelujah

Q4U:  What have you learned this week?

Thanks for stopping by! I pray you have a glorious Easter.  He is Risen.  Hallelujah!

This Little Light of Mine

lantern

My husband is a creature of the dark.  I no longer enjoy eating at certain restaurants because he hates the way the pin point lighting bothers him.  We had to purchase new stand up torchiere lamps for our home because the bright bulbs on the ceiling fan gave him a headache.  Through his eyes, I have learned that too much light is not only blinding, it’s painful.

My man’s aversion to too much light came to mind today as I was reading in the Gospels.  God calls on me to be a “light to the world” so that others may see Him more clearly:

“No one lights a lamp, then hides it in a drawer.

It’s put on a lamp stand

so those entering the room have light to see where they’re going.

Your eye is a lamp, lighting up your whole body.

If you live wide-eyed in wonder and belief,

your body fills up with light.

If you live squinty-eyed in greed and distrust,

your body is a dank cellar.

Keep your eyes open, your lamp burning,

so you don’t get musty and murky.

Keep your life as well-lighted as your best-lighted room.”

Luke 11: 33-36, MSG

I read this passage with a different mindset — I pictured what my husband would define as “well-lighted.”  The light should allow you to see things more clearly. but it should be comfortable and inviting, not stark and repelling.  I was reminded of the song I sang in childhood, “This little light of mine…”  It doesn’t say “This floodlight of mine…”  I need to stay connected to Him, the Light of the world, and ask Him to keep my bright light burning — at a level that others find attractive, not offensive.

Q4U:  How do you let your little light shine?  Can you relate to my husband’s aversion to the light?

My one-word focus for the year is “fruitilicious.”  Find out what that means here.
