Waiting for the Harvest: “Into the Word” Week 38

I am a city girl.  I don’t like to get my fingers dirty.  I like being able to purchase what I need at a nice, big store.  But, I know that in God’s economy, sometimes He will require us to jump in and get dirty as we plant something that will take time to harvest.  This week, I was reminded of this fact as I was  digging  “Into the Word”:

Dear brothers and sisters,

be patient as you wait for the Lord’s return.

Consider the farmers who patiently wait

for the rains in the fall and in the spring.

They eagerly look for the valuable harvest to ripen.

 You, too, must be patient.

Take courage, for the coming of the Lord is near.

James 5:7-8, NLT

This passage outlines how we should behave while we are in God’s waiting room:  Be patient,  Consider others who have planted and are waiting.  Eagerly look for the harvest.  Take courage as you wait.    The harvest will come.  Keep marching forward.

Q4U:  What has God taught you about the harvest as you wait?

Due Season: “Into the Word” Week 33

This week has been tough.  Every day has been a battle to survive.  Have you had a week like that recently?  I pray that you have not.  Daily, I cry out to the Lord and ask for His favor, His healing, His mercy.  In the midst of it all, I attempted to “do the normal.”  I put one foot in front of the other and kept walking — a wobbly walk, but I asked Him to carry me forward.  Most importantly, I attempted to dig  “Into the Word”.  And do you know what verse jumped off the page and smacked me right in the gut?

And let us not grow weary

while doing good,

for in due season

we shall reap

if we do not lose heart.

Galatians 6:9, NKJV

Guzik’s commentary on Galatians explains that losing heart here implies being like a woman in painful labor who has not yet delivered — the journey is unfinished and unrewarded, but we must patiently persevere and manage our resources for His glory.  The harvest lingers ahead.  It will not come so easily.  Oh, how I pray that God fills me with His Spirit and helps me stay the course.

Q4U:  What harvest are you waiting to reap?  How do you keep from losing heart?
