A Gourmet Palate: “Into the Word” Week 2

Yesterday afternoon, I indulged in a gourmet meal.  My old friend “Pelota” invited me to an event — Supposedly, I was attending a typical baby shower, but as soon as I sat down in that enchanting room under a beautiful  chandelier and glanced at the menu, my taste buds started doing the “happy dance.”  A renowned chef whipped up three-course culinary deliciousness.  Every bite exploded with joy in my mouth.

Later that evening, my husband and I dropped in at a local diner to grab a bite to eat together.  You know what?  I really wasn’t even hungry.  That fantastic meal from the morning had fully satisfied me and made normal fare unattractive.  This got me to thinking about how often I settle for the mediocre in my life — especially spiritually I frequently chow down on “Mc Donalds” fare on the run rather than sitting down to relish a meaty dish from the Word.

For the past couple of weeks, I have been digging Into the Word.”  One of the stories we examined this week dealt with how Christ filled Peter after He was restored — In John 21, Peter and the disciples come back to shore after their fishing excursion and discover the resurrected Christ making them a meal.  The Master encourages Peter to “feed His sheep.”   I noted in my reading that Jesus Himself supernaturally provided the fish and bread required.  Peter had futilely struggled to feed Himself, but Christ alone, the  Bread of Life, could truly satisfy his hunger.

This week, I want to feed on a gourmet meal — I want to linger at the table until I am fully satisfied.  I want my spiritual meal to make every other fare seem unappetizing.  What about you?

“The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you—they are full of the Spirit and life” (John 6:63, NIV).

“Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom He gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts”  (Colossians 3:16, NLT).

Every Monday we will be working our way through Anne Graham Lotz’s 52-week study “Into the Word.”    Hop on over to the 3dLessons4Life Blog Facebook Page to join us as we dig into God’s Word together.
