Shielded: “Into the Word” Week 32

Life hits you hard some times.  The darts come flying in unexpectedly, and standing becomes almost impossible due to the onslaught.  This past week, I found myself wishing that I had a super power, or perhaps a shield like Captain America to ward off the fiery attacks.

Thankfully, as I was digging  “Into the Word” I found a verse that gave me hope for the battle ahead:

For You, O Lord, will bless the righteous;

With favor You will surround him as with a shield.

Psalms 5:12, NKJV

 What a wonderful promise!  I do have a super power — Christ resides in me, and His shield of protection encircles me.  I can rest in His care, knowing that His favor is mine.

Q4U:  How has Christ surrounded you with His shield of protection?

I AM: “Into the Word” Week 31

For 17 years, I was a single lady and a high school English teacher.  My maiden name echoed down the hallways of the school on the lips of my pupils.  Just this week, I ran into a former student, and she still called me “Miss Lopez.”  To her, I will always be that person, even if my last name changed several years ago.  My identity is etched in stone to her.

This week while I was digging  “Into the Word,” I was reminded that Christ has more than one name — His identity has many facets, each name ministering to our present need.   In John 8 when questioned, Christ stated: “Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM” (v.58, NKJV).

What is your need today?  Christ is very present.  He says to you…

I AM… your Help.

I AM…your Healer.

I AM…your Guide.

I AM…your Comforter.

I AM…your Provider.

I AM…your Defender.

I AM…your ALL.

Q4U:  How has God been your I AM?  What name of Christ do you most identify with as His child in need?

Verse 13: Hiding 20 in 2012 Scripture Memory Challenge

There are days where I lack stamina.  I lose focus on tasks, and my mind wanders off to far away fantasy lands.  I just wish I could get my mental faculties more firmly in grip.  You know what I mean?

In his book Scripture by Heart: Devotional Practices for Memorizing God’s Word, Joshua Choonmin Kang explains how daily Scripture memorization strengthens our mental endurance:

“Our will can be strengthened by training.

The stronger our will,

the easier learning Scripture by heart becomes.

The more we memorize Scripture,

the more steadfast and consistent we become” (p. 64)

How about you?  Are you ready to strengthen your will?  Let’s hold each other accountable by Hiding 20 in 2012.  In the comment section below, write out the verse you will be working on for the next two weeks. Make sure to include your first name, your home state, the verse’s address/location, and the Bible translation:

Lyli from Florida:

“But the end of all things is at hand;

therefore be serious and watchful in your prayers.”

I Peter 4:7, NKJV

Here’s a little play on words for all you Pinterest Fans. Rather than ‘Pin it,” let’s purpose to “Hide it.” I will end each post with a “Hide it” Suggested Verse.

“Hide it”:

If we endure,

we will also reign with Him,

if we deny Him,

He will also deny us.

II Timothy 2:12, NRSV
